π QIC and Q-STAR showcase global quantum computing supply chain project
Last week at SPIE's Photonics West in San Francisco, Lisa Lambert, CEO of Quantum Industry Canada (QIC), and Katsuyuki Hanai from Toshiba Digital Solutions and the Quantum STrategic Alliance for Revolution (Q-STAR), showcased a groundbreaking global quantum computing supply chain mapping project under the auspices of the International Council of Quantum Industry Associations (ICQIA). Their presentation, "Defining and Strengthening Supply Chains within ICQIA," emphasized the necessity for robust, interconnected supply chains to support the rapidly advancing global quantum sector.
This collaborative effort, led by ICQIA's founding members β QIC, Q-STAR, the Quantum Economic Development Consortium (QED-C), and the European Quantum Industry Consortium (QuIC) βdemonstrates the significant impact of international cooperation on the future of quantum technology. It offers critical insights into the global quantum computing supply chain.
The event also celebrated the first anniversary of ICQIA's establishment, highlighting its commitment to enhancing communication and collaboration among its members to foster the growth of the global quantum industry.
Keep an eye out for further developments from ICQIA as the global council continues to propel the quantum industry forward, including the progression of this landmark project.
π From Coast to Quantum Coast: Vancouver's Industry Linkages
The Greater Vancouver Area is swiftly earning its nickname as Canada's Quantum Coast, thanks to the vibrant quantum tech activities in the region.
During a recent visit, QIC's CEO Lisa Lambert explored key research and innovation hubs, including TRIUMF, Canada's particle accelerator centre, and the University of British Columbia's Stewart Blusson Quantum Matter Institute (QMI). Meetings with teams from the Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) and entrepreneurship@UBC also revealed exciting potential for further collaborations within Canada's quantum industry.
Here are some highlights of existing industry ties that could be expanded upon:
SBQuantum, a QIC member, uses TRIUMF's beamlines for testing their groundbreaking quantum sensing technology. TRIUMF is currently exploring how it can further leverage its unique capabilities and expertise to enhance support for the Canadian quantum community.
QMI collaborates with QIC members such as Photonic, D-Wave, and CMC Microsystems, showcasing the collaborative spirit that propels quantum advancements forward.
As a core participant in the Quantum Colaboratory, QMI plays a pivotal role in a national initiative aiming to bring quantum technologies from the lab to practical applications, supporting research and industry efforts across BC, Ontario, and Quebec.
Dr. Chris Coleman, a postdoc at QMI is also a Mitacs intern with QIC member The Quantum Insider where he explores applications of quantum computing.
Numerous QIC member companies, including Adaptive Finance, Agnostiq, CogniFrame, Foqus, ForeQast, Ki3 Photonics, Multiverse Computing, Netramark, OTI Lumionics, Quantized Technologies Inc., Quantum Bridge Technologies, SBQuantum, and SolidStateAI, are alumni of CDL's quantum program. Additionally, many in the QIC community contribute as CDL mentors.
These collaborations highlight the importance of partnerships in the development and commercialization of quantum technologies. Keep an eye out for further updates on how these connections continue to drive innovation and growth within Canada's quantum sector.
